MOD Lacquer Review and Swatches!

Provided for Honest Review

Hello my dearest and most wonderful readers!  I have a fun post for you today as it’s a brand we haven’t seen around these parts in awhile!  Now MOD Lacquer puts out some truly beautiful polishes.  I have two holographic polishes and three of her new Electrified collection which is a gorgeous batch of neon cremes!

Let’s start with the Neons shall we?

I’d like to make a couple of notes before we dive into the abyss of…Er…I mean review.  I’ve seen a lot of bloggers/swatchers/customers of the brand who have been marbling with these colors to very good effect.  I received minis of these and as many know marbling with minis is extremely difficult so I didn’t attempt it more than once.  With minis by the time you get a good bead on the brush the first ring is a little too set.  If you’re interested in marbling these WILL work well for that just make sure to get the full sizes!  Secondly neons are notoriously hard to photograph and my pictures do not do justice to the full and amazing neonness that is these polishes.

First up we have High Powered!

MOD Lacquer - High Powered

MOD Lacquer – High Powered

In this photo this polish looks more like one of the neon red colors however I assure you that High Powered is a Bright Neon true orange.  This shade is actually more like traffic cone orange than my pictures could capture!  This is a smooth shiny creme that almost didn’t need topcoat though I put one on out of habit.  The brightness of this is so satisfying.  I crave neons they are some of my favorite colors!

I know that this picture looks a bit dark I was trying to play around and get the best color possible.  This is as close as I could get to the true color and even then it’s still tricky!  Normally we would talk about formula here but all the neons I am reviewing today had the same formula so I’ll save that for the last one!  Pictures show two coats plus topcoat.

Next up is Stunned:

MOD Lacquer - Stunned

MOD Lacquer – Stunned

I’m stunned (see what I did there?) at how accurately this one photographed.  It’s still a touch less bright than the actual polish is but the shade is correct at least!  Stunned is a highlighter green creme.  It’s definitely an eyecatching color and I seriously can’t wait to do some kind of nail art with these colors soon!

MOD Lacquer - Stunned

MOD Lacquer – Stunned

Pictures show three coats plus topcoat because my nail line wanted to peek through the green moreso than the orange.

Last but not least for the neons we have Energize:

MOD Lacquer - Energize

MOD Lacquer – Energize

Again justice for this color is not served…you can ALMOST see the actual color in the edge of the bottle.  This color is a shocking, bright, neon, highlighter pink.    Looooove this color this is my favorite of the three neons I received but together they work amazingly well!

MOD Lacquer - Energize

MOD Lacquer – Energize

Like I mentioned before the formula on all of these was the same.  Awesome!  Here’s the deal pickles –  neons are sometimes (frequently) a pain in the behind to work with or need to be layered over white to perform decently.  They can be hard to apply, streaky, hard to level and all sorts of unfun to apply.  However I experienced none of this!  The only one that needed more than two coats was the green and that was more because the color itself allowed my nail line to show through rather than the formula itself.  All of these cremes self-leveled and are shown on their own without undies.  For neons they are truly delightful!  I topcoated them moreso out of habit than need and they look just awesome alone and will be AMAZING for nail art.

Now onto the holos!

First up is Baby Flamingo:

MOD Lacquer - Baby Flamingo

MOD Lacquer – Baby Flamingo

Baby Flamingo is a perfect flamingo pink, pink with a touch of orange undertone – almost salmon but not quite…it’s still definitely pink, creme holo.  The holographic effect in this is fairly low density so it’s a much more subtle effect, more of a holographic shimmer if you will.  It’s a gorgeous color and is great to have if you want some saturated color but have to keep to a “traditional” color pallette for work.  It’s also great for nail art as I’ve already used this polish in that capacity as well!

MOD Lacquer - Baby Flamingo

MOD Lacquer – Baby Flamingo

Because of the creme base for this polish it’s stunningly easy to apply and self-levels beautifully.  It was opaque in two coats without any issue whatsoever.  This one also almost didn’t need a topcoat as it dried very shiny but I threw one on out of habit!  Pictures show two coats plus topcoat.

Last up is my favorite!  Aerodynamic:

MOD Lacquer - Aerodynamic

MOD Lacquer – Aerodynamic

Aerodynamic is a gorgeous medium turquoise creme holographic polish.  As I’ve said a million times and as ya’ll are probably sick of hearing about I love holographic polishes that have a little bit more going on with them and this one has a strong gold shimmer that keeps this from going too cool or gray due to the holographic pigment.  I’m absolutely enamored of this shade!

MOD Lacquer - Aerodynamic

MOD Lacquer – Aerodynamic

Formula on this is just luscious and perfect and everything I would want from a polish.  Perfect in two coats with a good holographic arc, you can even see a bit of it in these pictures in my interior light.  I can’t wait to see it in the sunlight!

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Fan Favorites and a Siren Swatches and Review!

Provided for Honest Review

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquers - Fan Favorites and a Siren

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquers – Fan Favorites and a Siren

Good evening readers!  I hope that this post will make your Monday a little less murky and a little more magnificent!  Today I have some awesome Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquers on the blog.  Let me tell you if you’ve ever wanted one of those polishes that you could never seem to snag because it was so popular?  Now’s the time.  Blue-Eyed Girl is going to be doing a PRE-ORDER on some of her Fan Favorites!   I have several to show you before I get down to the nitty gritty with all the information you’ll need to secure your own bevy of Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquers.  Without further delay let’s get started.

First up I have Untrodden Snow:

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer - Untrodden Snow

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer – Untrodden Snow

Untrodden Snow is a perfect white crelly polish.  The maker describes the polish as, “White with blue flash and blue shimmers.”  Perfect description in my opinion.  Not only would this be an awesome base for nail art or stamping but the flash and shimmer leave it from feeling too sterile!

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer - Untrodden Snow

Application was good for a white polish which are notoriously a pain in the behind to work with.  This one didn’t leave me with chalky residue or anything of the sort during clean up either which I consider a miracle.  It is a crelly based polish so it’s a little bit “squishier” than a creme.  I do want to note that all Blue Eyed Girl Lacquers are designed to be used in one to two coats.  That means they may run thicker than other polishes on the market.  This is purposeful so that people can thin it to the consistency they prefer.  Some want a quick one to two coat mani and others tend to build in layers.  Personally I did thin this one a bit and used three thin layers coats which gave a perfect finish.

Next up I have Monster’s Tea at Tiffany’s:

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer - Monster's Tea at Tiffany's

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer – Monster’s Tea at Tiffany’s

Looooove this one.  This is sooo in my preferred color family.  One cannot own enough Tiffany Blue polishes.  They just can’t.  The maker describes this color as, “Tiffany blue with green to red shift.”  I love the extra little shifty shimmer in this one it’s like an acid green to a coppery red shift.

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer - Monster's Tea at Tiffany's

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer – Monster’s Tea at Tiffany’s

The formula on this one was fantastic!  I didn’t thin this one I left it as is and it was fully opaque in two perfect thin coats.  Nary a complaint here and I can’t wait to wear it again!

Now onto another polish that is going to be a staple in my collection, Bound to the City Life:

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer - Bound to the City Life

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer – Bound to the City Life

Oh.Em.Gee.  YES!  You might be asking yourself, “is that a dark teal jelly polish with teensie tiny multi-colored holographic sparklie thingamajigs?!?”  I am here to answer you with a resounding YES!  Yes that is exactly what this is!  I nearly passed out when I unwrapped this one.  I will use it again and again and again.  This is perfect for quick manis when you just want something dark and vampy on your nails.  The maker describes this one as, “Dark teal jelly with teal, turquoise, purple, and blue holo microglitters.”

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer - Bound to the City Life

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer – Bound to the City Life

Perfection in a bottle.  That’s really all I have to say about this one.  It’s a jelly but it is perfectly opaque in two coats and it applies like a dream.

*passes out*

Ok…I’m back I’m revived and depsite my shenanigans with the previous polish we’re up to my FAVORITE of the Fan Favorites I was sent.  Wanna Fall In Love Tonight:

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer - Wanna Fall In Love Tonight

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer – Wanna Fall In Love Tonight

*heavy breathing*  Ok, so yes, I’m the girl that is in love with blues, teals, turquoises, and greens.  But every so often a color comes around that just shouts at me and makes me want to reevaluate my preferred color family.  This is one of those polishes.  That beautiful orchid purple!  That golden-red shimmer!  I’m utterly smitten.  The maker describes this as, “Purple with glowing red shimmer.”

Blue Eyed Girl Lacquer - Wanna Fall In Love Tonight

As if the gorgeousness wasn’t enough the formula on this is a true ONE COAT WONDER!  Just.One.Coat.  Seriously it doesn’t really get any better than that.  In case you missed it, this is one coat plus topcoat.  This one does dry to a satin finish.

Just this.  This is just everything.

Last but not least is the June 2015 Siren offering!  This is a special Siren to celebrate BEGL’s 2 Year Anniversary.  Siren’s Birthday Sprinkles!:

Blue glitter explosion!!!!  Absolutely fantastic glitter topper for summer manis.  This is another one that I will reach for often as it will look good over a myriad of bases!   The maker describes this one as, “Clear base with sky blue holo, navy holo, royal blue and Canadian blue glitters with blue microflakies.”  So much blue glitter that I’m in blue glitter overload!

Ok you see all that glitter?  ONE coat.  Just one unfussed coat.  I didn’t manipulate, I didn’t dab, I didn’t fish, I didn’t contort myself into all different positions to try to coax the glitter out of the bottle and onto the nail.  Nope, I just dipped the brush and brushed it on.   Excellent formulation for a glitter topper!  Not to mention since it is all smaller sized glitters it’s not terribly topcoat hungry either and one coat of topcoat smoothed everything out for me.

Oh and in case you were wondering, yes it DOES look amazing over Wanna Fall in Love Tonight:

Quickie Saturday Post – Featuring Takko Lacquer

Nothing to Disclose

Hello all my gorgeous readers!  How does this beautiful Saturday find you?  It finds me busy busy busy but I wanted to pop by and show you a beautiful Takko Lacquer that I received as a gift from a very sweet friend!  Takkos can be hard to come by but they do pop up second-hand in Facebook groups and there are periodic restocks.  I myself only own two Takko polishes so they are a challenge.  But that’s half the fun of collecting things sometimes!  I know, I know you’re anxious to see the pretty polish.

Here is Nirvana:

Takko Lacquer - Nirvana

Oh this picture just makes me want to go and put it on again.  I wore this some time ago and I can assure you I got many compliments.  This is a gorgeous rich dark turquoise creme base filled with golden flakies.  Sometimes simple and elegant is just the perfect thing to create an amazing look!

Takko Lacquer - Nirvana

This polish was a delight to work with.  The creme base was beautifully self-leveling and went on perfectly.  The flakies spread out evenly across the nail and I didn’t see any issues with the application.  Pictures show two coats plus topcoat.

Polishes used:  Glisten & Glow – Stuck on Blu; Takko Lacquer – Nirvana; Digital Nails – Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That Topcoat

You absolutely MUST keep watch on the Takko Website and Instagram for updates as restocks are very popular and you’ll definitely want to mark them on your calendars when they occur.  I do not believe this color is officially discontinued but it may be some time before it returns again.

Wednesday We Wear Pink – Featuring Crows Toes

Nothing to Disclose

So it’s been awhile since I did a Wednesday We Wear Pink post but I thought that I have a couple of Crows Toes Polishes that fit the bill and who doesn’t love Crows Toes?  I know that they are definitely one of my top ten favorite indies so I love sharing them with you!

First up is Tequila Sunrise:

Crows Toes - Tequila Sunrise (over China Glaze - You Drive Me Coconuts)

Crows Toes – Tequila Sunrise (over China Glaze – You Drive Me Coconuts)

Tequila Sunrise is a stunning hot pink to golden duochrome topper that transforms ordinary polishes to EXTRAORDINARY!  I paired this with a mainstream (*gasp* I know I know!) hot pink jelly at someone’s suggestion (I’m so sorry I can’t remember who suggested it!) and it just worked so well.  Totally loved this one it was so much fun to wear!

Crows Toes - Tequila Sunrise (over China Glaze - You Drive Me Coconuts)

Crows Toes – Tequila Sunrise (over China Glaze – You Drive Me Coconuts)

This is definitely an effect topper and could not be worn on its own.  However that’s ok with me I plan to try it over a couple more things to see what kind of effects I can get with different colors.  But this bright pink with the golden shift just really makes me feel like summertime and tropical drinks.  The formulation for an effect topper is perfect.  It didn’t streak or look patchy over the base color.  Photos show one coat over undies.

Polishes Used:  Glisten & Glow – Stuck on Blu; China Glaze – You Drive Me Coconuts; Crows Toes – Tequila Sunrise; Digital Nails – Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That Topcoat

Next up is the hottest hot pink I’ve ever seen and the name was suggested by my bestie, The Glamour Granny.  Without further introduction here is Hooker at Heart:

Crows Toes - Hooker at Heart

Crows Toes – Hooker at Heart

Oh yeah.  This is the perfect hot hot hot pink for summer.  It was actually part of her Valencrows collection from this year but I’ve been saving it for summer!  It’s an utterly gorgeous highlighter pink textured polish!  There are some additional little holographic microglitter sparklies in there as well!

Crows Toes - Hooker at Heart

Crows Toes – Hooker at Heart

The texture is not overwhelming and the application was fantastic.  I didn’t even find it hard to clean up even though it is crazy pigmented.  Pictures show two coats sans topcoat!

I do have a couple of topcoat shots so that you can see that it can be smoothed out to make a gorgeous shiny polish:

Crows Toes - Hooker at Heart (with topcoat)

Crows Toes – Hooker at Heart (with topcoat)

To be honest I think I prefer it textured but I know that some folks are not a fan of texture but still want that amazing color!

Polishes used:  Glisten & Glow – Stuck on Blu; Crows Toes – Hooker at Heart; Digital Nails – Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That Topcoat.

You can follow Crows Toes on Facebook and Instagram.  They are offered for sale at various stockists such as Llarowe in the US and Internationally.
